Las Castañuelas
About This Spot
Las Castañuelas settles into the rhythm of the Paseo Marítimo, where sea breezes mingle with the hum of waves and wandering street performers. Walking in, there’s an immediate sense of ease — the kind of place where time slows, inviting you to linger over a meal while watching the world drift by along the waterfront. The atmosphere is unpretentious, warm, and grounded in genuine hospitality, with a pace that encourages conversation and quiet appreciation of the surroundings.
At its heart, Las Castañuelas is a casual local eatery where familiar comforts meet a touch of Canarian charm. The menu is as inviting as the views, blending coastal influences with satisfying favorites that feel like a small celebration of the island’s flavors. Whether it’s a fresh glass of sangria shared among friends or a plate of tender Canarian potatoes paired with something richer and hearty, the dishes resonate with approachable warmth. Guests often find themselves drawn to moments as simple as savoring the local cheeses or watching the tides as they tuck into a comforting plate of tagliatelle or fresh fish.
The terrace, with its relaxed seating, naturally becomes the scene for quiet lunches or casual dinners, where service is friendly even if unhurried—a reminder to slow your pace and enjoy the human moments that make dining memorable. Friendly nods, a thoughtful limoncello offered after a meal, or the gentle exchange with staff who clearly know the neighbourhood all add to the relaxed sense of belonging.
Las Castañuelas isn’t just a stop for food and drink; it’s a place where the local rhythm and the laid-back coastal charm come together—perfect for those looking to experience Tenerife through its simple pleasures, comforting tastes, and the warmth of genuine human connection.

One steak that’s was meant to be medium well it was medium rare! Good portions service was a bit slow and didn’t feel attended too, nice wee touch with limoncello, staff were quite friendly

Excellent value for money! Fab location on the front. Street entertainers come by to entertain you so have some change ready. Good food, nice size portions. Excellently priced for our light lunch at around €7-8 euros a head. House drinks were really cheap with pint of lager at €2 and a glass of cava €3 euro. The American burger was a delightful surprise (pictured) with fresh salad, ham, bacon, beef burger and an egg on top! The Caesar salad was flavoursome and generously portioned with lots of lettuce but could have done with a little more chicken and there was no bacon in it. But ate it all up! The stuffed croissant was lovely. Hot filling with cold salad in it. The cheese burger had nice fresh salad in it. Parrot and parakeet and other animals are in cages in the rear - nice for children to see, unless you’re not happy with caged animals.

This restaurant has a very affordable three course daily menu with a choice of meat or fish. We had lunch at the terrace which offers comfortable seating. The starters (melon with ham and tuna salad) as well as the sirloin steak were good, however the sardines were rather dry but the chips were nice. The desserts, tiramisu and chocolate ice cream were also nice.

I thoroughly enjoyed the English breakfast. The presentation was excellent, with the toast served on a separate plate to prevent it from becoming soggy from the beans. I appreciated the cute garnish of parsley on the eggs. The breakfast came with toast, two butters, and one jam, all competitively priced at €4 compared to other restaurants. However, the atmosphere was slightly spoiled by the presence of aggressive pigeons, brazenly raiding without fear. (Please see the attached photo of a pigeon mid-raid on my jammed toast.)

Chill restaurant by the sea. Away from the bustle of the main town, Las Castanuelas offers fantastic food in a relaxed setting. We came here three times for lunch during the week and never left disappointed.
